2017 HOLIDAY GUIDE

As the sounds of familiar carols, sights of festive decorations and smells of yummy baked goods fill the air, these upcoming events and shopping options will transport you and your family into the holiday spirit:

38th Annual Fall Arts and Crafts Show, Nov. 11-12: Conveniently located near the intersection of I-81 and I-64, the Augusta Expo Event Center’s 38th Annual Fall Arts & Crafts Show is where you’ll find the perfect gift for almost everyone on your list.

38th Annual Farmville Christmas Show, Nov. 11-12: Featuring over 60 vendors and no admission fee, the Farmville Christmas Show promotes “Shopping with a Cause.” After the kids enjoy lunch with Santa, shop at the North Pole, bid on silent auction items and get your holiday photo portraits. Presented in partnership with Centra Southside Community Hospital, all proceeds will benefit STEPS, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that aids residents of 11 Southside Virginia counties through workforce development, HeadStart education services and housing assistance.

Bevell's Hardware Train Display, Nov. 24-Jan. 14: Bevell’s Hardware in Blackstone is home to a famous Christmas holiday railroad display. Thousands of folks come from near and far to see this spectacular showcase featuring 10 model trains whose tracks run along, under and beside realistic mountains, bridges, an amusement park, snow village, farm scenes, replicas of local businesses past and present and much, much more.

Westmoreland State Park Holiday Festival, Dec. 17: Put the final touches on your holiday spirit by helping “Deck the Halls” at Westmoreland State Park on Dec. 17 from 1-4 p.m. Plan a trip to Virginia’s Northern Neck and experience holiday fun, food and music in Murphy Hall, with special gift shop discounts for last-minute purchases!

Rockin' New Year's Eve Party, Dec. 31: The Augusta Expo invites you to their Rockin' New Year's Eve Party featuring THE WORX, a multi-genre band that will help you celebrate the start of 2018 in style. Admission is $60 per person or $100 per couple.

Good Earth Peanuts: If you’re still stumped on what to get that special someone, what’s more Virginia than peanuts? Those grown in the sandy soil of the southeastern part of our state have the largest kernels of any variety, making them ideal for enjoying whole or prepared into delectable, nutritious snacks. For 25 years, the Good Earth Peanut Company of Skippers has provided tasty, made-to-order gift baskets and popular assorted nut samplers. Best of all, with quick and easy ordering at www.goodearthpeanuts.com, there’s no need to travel down I-95!

Cooperative Living Subscription: Another great gift idea? Consider an annual subscription to Cooperative Living for friends and family who live outside Virginia co-op country. At just $10 for 10 issues, it’s a one-size-fits-all gift that will keep giving all year long!
